Check out the Spring Lineup of Student Events
By Andrew Wildman, OMFA graduate assistant
Ole Miss Student Union staff has been hard at work organizing spring semester programming for University of Mississippi students and has already offered Week of Welcome, RebelTHON, and Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras activities.
OMFA recently sat down with Will Takewell, associate director of student leadership and engagement; Jordan Lang, assistant director of student activities; and Haley Anderson, assistant director of leadership programming, who talked about the events they have coming up for students for the rest of this semester.
A huge event here at Ole Miss is the annual Big Event. The Big Event is the single largest day of service in the state of Mississippi. With everyone following social-distancing guidelines, the Student Union has had to think creatively to still provide the same amount of outreach for the Oxford and Lafayette County communities. This year, the event is a part of “One Big Week,” March 15-19. Throughout the week, there will be events in and around the Union to help students engage with the community, as well as fundraising opportunities. Then March 20 and 21, students will have the chance to volunteer for community service projects.
The Associated Student Body and Student Activities Association have partnered to present Flagship Fridays, 9-11 p.m., to give students a fun option on Friday nights.
March is our Spring Fling month with two events happening every week.
April 11-16 rounds out the semester with Landshark Week. The week will have events ranging from laser tag to a Landshark toss!
Besides participating in these events, students who are looking to get more involved can contact the Leadership and Engagement Ambassadors. These ambassadors have gone to classes to speak about involvement opportunities, but they can also meet one-on-one with students to help them plug into the best student organization for them.
